Coco Berry is one of six ice cream-themed "Sundae Best" ponies released in 1987 by My Little Pony. The Sundae Best ponies create frozen confections at the ice cream shop, with Coco Berry specializing in berry treats paired with chocolate. Her cutie mark is pink ice cream cone with chocolate sprinkles, and she is colored blue as well as berry-scented. A Unicorn-style pony, Coco Berry was named Chocolate Chip in the United Kingdom release.
After making my Peppermint Crunch from the Sundae Best Series in 2009, I decided to get the full Sundae Best group together since they are so colorful and adorable looking! For Coco Berry I kept with the 80s theme for her design and paired her circle skirt with a jumper/overall design for her top, complete with oversize buttons and poofy sleeves. My base fabric for this costume was baby blue fleece, and I used Peppermint Crunch's skirt, cutie marks, and leg warmers as patterns to ensure they matched both in size and design. The skirt is fully lined and the ice cream cutie marks are cut from craft foam, glued together in layers to create the design and then hand sewn onto the outer layer of the skirt. The top is a modified combination of Simplicity 4015 and Simplicity 1558, and I added hand-patterned overall straps with oversized buttons to complete the look. The leg warmers are trimmed with thick yellow ribbon to suggest hooves, and raspberry bias tape accents on leg warmers and the neckline pulled the "berry" aspect into the design. For the hair and the tail I used two wigs I already had which matched in dusty pink color; the first is a nicely styled one for the hair and the second a long straight one for the tail. Finally, the ears I bought from Yaya Han's pony accessory line. I was happy to see they had the perfect baby blue color!
